One hundred thousand miles is quite a journey for anyone, but it is especially remarkable when it is reflected on your vehicle’s odometer. Today’s cars can go the distance now more than ever and like everything, to keep your vehicle in prime condition, maintenance is key.
Keep up on scheduled routine maintenance
Regular maintenance would include making sure that your oil is changed, tires rotated and car realigned. Oil is essentially the lifeline of a vehicle, which makes it extremely important to replace your oil every 3,000-5,000 miles, depending on the vehicle and your driving habits. CNM Auto Repair recommends having your tires rotated every 6,000 miles to keep your car driving. This would line up with when it is recommended to have the alignment service performed on your car.
Belts and hoses
While getting the works performed on your car, ask your trusted technician to inspect your vehicle’s belts and hoses. It’s critical to be up-to-date on your belt and hose maintenance because if a timing belt or hose were to fail while you are driving, it would be disastrous and damage could occur to the engine.
Make sure you are cool with coolant
Coolant levels that are too high or too low can become issues if not properly addressed. If it’s too low, you can add coolant to your car’s cool engine. If the coolant level is too high, contact your local mechanic to help remove the access of fluid. When you are checking the coolant level, make sure to take notice of the color. Depending on the brand the color should either be bright orange or green. If it is a darker shade, your coolant should be replaced, as it will not function as it should.
When in doubt, consult the book
Your vehicle is equipped with a special book that is filled with little cheat sheets. This book can sometimes be forgotten and overlooked when tucked away in your glove compartment with extra tissues and pens. The owner’s manual, has lots of information about the upkeep and maintenance that is specific to your vehicle’s make and model.
